There is no need to find any dispute between the bedrooms, with eighteen gorgeous rooms, including two self-contained apartments. These sumptuous, beautifully presented bedrooms with William Morris wallpaper, crystal chandeliers and luxurious king-size beds are perhaps one of the highlights of a stay at the hall. The designer has taken inspiration from Lakeland poets, as well the elegant shaker style to combine romance, charm, and elegance into every corner of each room. The master suite is perhaps in another league, with its four-poster bed, separate seating area and roll-top bath.

Of course, in a location like this, with all the natural beauty of Lake Windermere on your doorstep, the outside space must be as captivating as the interior. The large private garden offers beautiful views across the lake. The holiday park also boasts a fine dining restaurant and cocktail bar.

With the Lake Distract stretching out around you, there are endless sights to see and places to visit. From outstanding golf courses to the world of Beatrix Potter, there is a magic to the Lakes that must be experienced. Windermere village can be reached within a longer thirty-minute walk, and the bustling town of Ambleside is only a fifteen-minute drive away, or you can arrange a lake cruise, travelling across the water and taking in the fabulous views along the way!

Windermere is England’s largest lake, measuring 10.5 miles long and 219 feet at its deepest point. Its size and majestic beauty, unsurprisingly, make it one of the most renowned and popular areas to visit in the Lake District. For outdoor adventures, the hiking, cycling and water sports on offer are fantastic, as well as crazy golf, climbing, hot air ballooning and orienteering to fill up your holiday schedule! Any opportunity to leave the car behind and lost yourself in the fresh air and nature, is highly recommended.

Perhaps one of the closest attractions, is the delightful World of Beatrix Potter, where the fabulous animals of Beatrix Potter's tales are brought to life in three dimensions. Also on the list, must be the Lakes Aquarium, with the UK’s largest collection of freshwater fish and the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway, where you can enjoy a 3.5-mile steam locomotive trip into the Leven Valley.

As well as being home to England’s largest lake, The Lake District is also England’s largest National Park, with more than 3100km of rights of way, you can walk, cycle and ride your way around this stunning part of the country, revelling in some of the world’s best scenery.

Carlisle, Leeds and Newcastle airports are all within around a 2-hour drive, and there are train stations dotted throughout the National Park, so accessing the house on public transport is certainly possible. Bowness on Windermere is a bustling tourist town about halfway along the 10.5 mile length of Lake Windermere. It is located between Waterhead on the northern end of the lake and Lakeside on the south. Bowness on Windermere enjoys an excellent selection of shops including the flagship Lakeland store which is very popular. There is a wonderful array of cafes, bars and restaurants as well as a good selection of gift shops and outdoor clothing outlets. Lake Windermere is one of the most desirable parts of the Lake District with unrivalled hiking, mountain biking and watersports on offer, not to mention attractions including crazy golf, climbing, hot air ballooning and orienteering. There are plenty of boats for hire or organised boat trips for those that do not want to go it alone. Bowness on Windermere developed after the opening of the railway line from Oxenholme and Kendal to Windermere in 1847. Bowness was the nearest accessible point on the lake. The Victorian influence can be seen everywhere. One of the most interesting buildings in Bowness is the parish Church of Bowness, St Martin’s Church which was built in 1483 and restored in 1870. The area behind the church is the oldest part of Bowness, a delightful warren of narrow streets known as Lowside. The village was originally called Birthwaite but the railway company wanted to call the station after the lake. A short walk from Windermere takes you to Orrest Head, an outstanding viewpoint. It was the first summit in Lakeland visited by A Wainwright, author of the famous guidebooks.

Just north of Bowness on Windermere, you will discover the thriving town of Ambleside. It offers an excellent selection of shops, restaurants, cafes and a cinema. Close to Ambleside is the Waterhead Pier with rowing boats, motor boats and ferry and cruise services. There are many outdoor adventure activities available around Ambleside. A short walk from the centre takes you to Stock Gyll Force, a spectacular 70 foot waterfall. In spring, it looks absolutely stunning with a carpet of daffodils next to it. Once there were twelve watermills powered by Stock Gyll and other local becks. The National Trust’s 17th century Bridge House over Stock Gyll beck is one of the most photographed scenes in Lakeland. Another local National Trust wonder are the Stagshaw Gardens covering about 8 acres and brimming with fine collections of rhododendrons, azaleas, ericaceous trees and shrubs. The Armitt Museum offers a wonderful collection of books, manuscripts, watercolours, archaeological remains and an area dedicated to Beatrix Potter. A short ferry ride from Waterhead is Brockhole, the Lake District National Park Visitor Centre. It is a fantastic stop set in 30 acres of beautiful gardens with boat hire, bike hire, a tree top trek, laser clay shooting, archery and special family events.

Nearby attractions include the Lakes Aquarium with the UK's largest collection of freshwater fish, the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway, where visitors can enjoy a 3.5-mile steam locomotive trip into the Leven Valley and the delightful World of Beatrix Potter, where the fabulous animals of Beatrix Potter's tales are brought to life in three dimensions! This is always a favourite with young children.

In the Master bedroom there is a wall-mounted TV for those lazy mornings you can enjoy on holiday. Our amazing twin bedrooms are a kids (and grown ups) paradise, with each bed having its very own TV with a PS4** allowing multi player games to be played simultaneously.

Outside - Outside Woodpecker Lodge there is a large decked area with outdoor seating. The BBQ is perfect for some al fresco dining as well as a covered hot tub to relax in whatever the weather. Parking is available for one car at each lodge with further parking available onsite. Each lodge also has a bike rack for added security.

Dogs - We know how much fun it is to bring your dog on holiday with you, however we also understand dogs are not everyone's cup of tea so we have both dog friendly and dog free lodges available. Woodpecker Lodge is dog free.
