The Danish Dinesen Douglas Fir flooring creates a cool warmth and is toasty on the toes with or without the underfloor heating, which is throughout the property.
The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you could possibly need and want, with a range style cooker. Enjoy the fruits of your labour in the large dining room with a log burning fire, it’s the perfect cosy environment to toast the evening and have some fun. If you want someone else to do the cooking look at 'Chef & Shepherd Suppers to offer a private dining experience.
In the Lodge there are 4 bedrooms which sleeps 8-12 (1x Super King/Twin with 2x single sofa beds, 2x Super-King/Twin, 1x dedicated Twin). 2 child/adult mats and a camp bed ideally for a 2 toddlers and 2 cots for infants can be placed in a number of the rooms. The Lodge has 2 lounge areas, one on the ground floor and a larger lounge upstairs which can be accessed via 2 staircases.
Step outside onto the patio, which surrounds the Lodge, and enjoy your breakfast al fresco, and say good morning to the wildlife. Afterwards take a stroll down to the loch, through the woods, or wander through the Christmas trees (wellington boots required), go and say hello to the resident sheep or deer that Alick farms. You might even see him with his 6 working sheep dogs Patch, Moss and Ben, Kim, Tess, and Meg. Due to the elevated position of the estate, at the end of every wee walk you will be rewarded with spectacular views of Ben Ledi, Ben Lomond, Ben Venue, Ben Vorlich the Campsie Fells or the Gargunnock hills. The views are truly epic and you forget that you are not far from civilisation but yet feel completely secluded, immersed in nature and tranquillity.
If you fancy going further afield, Callander, the Trossachs and Loch Lomond are all just minutes away on the doorstep, or do some sight seeing in nearby Stirling, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Perth. When you get back, soak away any aches and pains in the hot tub, If you want to have a more rustic meal, venture across the garden and get the wood burning on the bespoke built Pizza Oven and BBQ where there is plenty room for a banquet to be cooked over the flames.

Forming part of a farm courtyard, this 19th-century cottage is available to hire on a self-catered basis for a group of up to 8 guests. Recently refurbished the cottage now offers comfortable and traditional accommodation to a modern standard. The open plan living and dining area is a large welcoming space for everyone to relax. The well-equipped kitchen will cater well for this group size. The bedrooms are all twin-bedded rooms with their own shower room. The spacious games room provides perfect entertainment for all ages. The main section of the cottage has oil fired central heating, with the living room and one of the twin room sections with electric heating. It has been modernised and refurbished to a high standard. With gardens to the front and the farm to the rear, this is a delightful big cottage to enjoy a rural holiday. Situated in a quiet rural setting, though being close to Stirling, there is parking available for 4 cars and it also has access to an outdoor tennis court.
There is one large living space which is split between the seating area and the dining space. The seating area looks like a classic elegant sitting room you would find in a country house rather than a cottage, with comfortable sofas and armchairs and prints of game birds on the walls. With a warming wood-burning stove and TV, this is a lovely setting to be entertained in. In the converted garage space which adjoins to the cottage is a games room/sporting room, which houses a table tennis table, wood-burning stove and is adorned with antlers, taxidermy and rod holders for fishing rods. There is also access to a tennis court within the grounds.
The kitchen is beyond the living space in the centre of the house, and it is a classic rectangular space, which has been well designed to maximise workspace and storage. With four electric hobs and oven, along with the microwave, there is plenty of cooking capacity for the numbers involved. A dishwasher and fridge/freezer are located in the kitchen, whilst a chest freezer can be made available in the games room. There is one large living space which is split between the seating area and the dining space. This dining section is elegantly set-up, with a fine dining table that can seat up to 8 people, surrounded by a dresser and antique pictures on the wall.

Enjoying a fascinating history and standing in splendour, the luxurious Scottish retreat Yew House sits in 450 acres of gardens on the edge of the charming village of Kippen in Stirlingshire. Sir James’ maternal great-grandfather, Archibald Colville ran the largest steel works in Scotland, David Colville & Sons. It is understood that during the 1920’s his wife was said to be the first person to host ‘cocktail parties’ in Scotland with Fortnum & Mason commissioned to entertain the guests in lavish style. The Fortnum & Mason carriage would be sent on the overnight train from London to Scotland where on arrival at Stirling Station, the horse drawn carriage would head to the house for the evening’s glamorous entertainment. The original Georgian House stands in the grounds of an old monastic sanctuary said to be linked to Inchmahome Priory on the island of Inchmahome in the nearby Lake of Menteith. The giant yew tree next to the house was planted by the Augustinian Canons that lived there nearly eight hundred years ago. The tree in listed in John Lowe’s 1897 book ‘The Yew Trees of Great Britain and Ireland.

From its dramatic rocky eyre, the fortress definitely rewards your stroll along Stirling’s cobbled main street with spectacular views over the stunning Stirlingshire countryside. Stirling is home to some of Scotland’s most epic events which you will learn about when visiting its historic attractions. Stirling’s famous landmark, The National Wallace Monument overlooks the scene of Sir William Wallace’s greatest victory at the Battle of Stirling Bridge. The Old Town Jail tells the tale of crime and punishment in the Royal Burgh of Stirling. Another jewel is The Church of the Holy Rude which was founded in the 12th century. The Stirling Smith Art Gallery and Museum is wonderful. Surrounded by portraits of Bonnie Prince Charlie, William Wallace and others, you will discover some astonishing artefacts such as the oldest football from 1540 and the oldest curling stone from 1511.
Those that love outdoor activities can enjoy horse-back riding at Castle Rednock, mountain biking, cycling, archery, kayaking and an excellent range of watersports at Go Country Adventure, Loch Ard, hiking in the local hills and fishing in the Lake of Menteith.
The Lake of Menteith is situated on the Carse of Stirling. Until the 19th century, it was known as the Loch of Menteith. There are some small islands on the lake, the largest being Inchmahome with its ancient monastery. The Earl of Menteith founded Inchmahome Priory in 1238. Robert the Bruce and Mary Queen of Scots visited and in fact, Mary Queen of Scots was hidden there for a few weeks aged four. It is an Augustinian Monastery in a truly idyllic setting. The woodlands surrounding the monastery are carpeted in wildflowers, adding to its appeal. Three of the Spanish chestnuts on the island are listed in Scotland’s top one hundred trees. Visitors can take a boat trip from the Port of Menteith from March until September each year. To return, you turn the signal post around. To the west of Lake Menteith is Flanders Moss, one of the largest remaining bogs in Scotland. The lake is very popular for fishing and the Port of Menteith Fisheries rent out boats so that you can catch rainbow and brown trout. If the lake freezes over during a harsh winter, the lake is the scene of the ‘Bonspiel’, an outdoor curling tournament.
